Floyd Smith

Floyd Smith, 90, of Phelps, KY, passed away on Wednesday , May 31, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center in Phelps, KY. He was born September 22, 1926 in Pike County, KY, a son of the late Wilburn & Marcellia Smith . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years: Geraldine Smith; one son: Adam Smith; one daughter: Kathy Casey; several brothers and sisters.

Floyd was a retired coal miner, having worked for the Kentland Elkhorn Coal Corporation for 44 years, and was a member of the UMWA. He was a big country music fan, and an outgoing person who loved to socialize and sit and talk with his friends. He always took time to stop and speak to people whenever he was out. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith. Floyd loved his wife with all his heart and would say, "Geraldine is the prettiest girl I got."

Floyd is survived by four sons: Everett (Nancy) Smith of Blackberry, KY, James (Huletha) Smith of Phelps, KY, Tolbert Smith of Matthews, NC, Ricky Smith of Phelps, KY; four daughters: Georgia (Dallas) Smith of Phelps, KY, Vivian Smith of Phelps, KY, Margaret Smith of TN, Marcy (Dwayne) Yates of Sidney, KY; two brothers: Richard Smith of Phelps, KY, Phillip (Betty) Smith of Blackberry, KY; two sisters: Delphia (Stirl) Smith of Phelps, KY, Molly Blankenship of Phelps, Ky; a host grandchildren & great-grandchildren he loved dearly, along with many nieces, nephews, friends & family to mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. Sunday, June 4th at the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel with Dwayne Yates & Dennis Hinkle officiating.

Burial will follow in the Stump Family Cemetery, Smith Fork, Phelps, KY.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Friday and Saturday at the Jones & West Funeral Home with services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
