Gary Lee Thacker

Gary Lee Thacker, 57, of Majestic, KY passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. 

Born March 21, 1957 in South Williamson, KY, he was a son of the late John Harrison Thacker and Macie E. Thacker Ray.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard, Fred & Johnny Thacker. 

Gary was a kind-hearted man who never saw a stranger & would help anyone in need.  Neighborhood children looked up to him & he was the favorite uncle to his nieces & nephews.  Gary enjoyed riding horses & his ATV and enjoyed working on cars.  He was of the Pentecostal faith.  Friends & family could go by in the summer and see him sitting in his swing under the pine tree in his driveway.  He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. 

Survivors include his step-son: Jason (Cheryl) Lester of Virginia; two grandchildren: Sheena & Jaylyn Lester of Virginia; two brothers: Randy (Rhonda) Thacker of Morehead, KY, Ryan (Melissa) Ray of Overpeck, OH; three sisters: Danford Ann (Randall) Combs of Herndon, WV, Bonnie Stamper of Freeburn, KY, Brenda Smith of Majestic, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends and his loving boxer: Rusty. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Faith Tabernacle Church, Freeburn, KY with Reverends: Charles Meek, Terry Blankenship & Odis Blankenship officiating.

Burial will follow in the Freeburn Community Cemetery with Chad & Sid Maynard, Billy Joe Charles, Freddie, Barry & Johnny Thacker, Brian Blankenship and Jeremy Clay serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the church with special services at 7:00 P.M.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Pikeville Medical Center for the loving care they provided Gary.
