Joe Hurley, 66, of Jamboree, KY, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at his residence.  Born February 5, 1951 at Edgarton, WV, he was a son of Pricie “Slone” Hurley of Jamboree, KY and the late Howard Hurley Jr.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Lonnie Hurley, Howard Eugene Hurley, and Teddy Olen Hurley.

Joe was a retired coal miner and a member of the Jamboree Church of God.  He loved working with Wednesday night youth service and Sunday School children’s church.  Joe was an outdoorsman.  His favorite place to be was outside in nature, teaching Trevor how to hunt and fish.  He enjoyed spending time in the mountains, hunting with Robert, Brandon, & Bug, or spending his mornings listening to the birds, and drinking coffee with Mike.  Some of his happiest moments were laughing and reminiscing about “old times” with his brother-in-law Chuck, who was more like a brother.  He was known as the prankster of the family and always had a joke to tell, but he never missed a chance to minister the word of God.  Even with his mischievous personality, he would never allow the rest of the family to pick on his niece Vergena or his boy Trevor.

Survivors, in addition to his mother Pricie, include his wife of 43 years: Norma Fields Hurley; two daughters: Heather (Regina) Fields, Amanda (Gary) Hall, all of Jamboree, KY; one brother: Lawrence (Donna) Hurley of TN; five sisters: Ethel Hurley of Jamboree, Donna Hurley (Monroe Dotson) of Hurley, VA, Freda Daugherty of Jamboree, Vickie (Chuck) Hunt of Jamboree, & Michelle (Chris) Stump of Phelps, KY; one grandson: Trevor Wolford of Jamboree; sister-in-law: Dottie Fields of Jamboree; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, & friends to cherish his memory.

The family extends a special thank you to the Leonard Lawson Cancer Center chemo nurses, and to the Hospice Care of the Bluegrass for their love & support during Joe’s four-year battle with cancer.  He loved you all dearly.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Revs. Odis Blankenship & Larry Blackburn officiating.

Burial will follow in the Slone Cemetery, KBC Hollow, with Trevor Wolford, Gary Hall, Mike Hurley, Robert Coleman, Franklin “Bug” Wolford, and Chuck Hunt serving as pallbearers.
