Leo Coleman, 95, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, KY.
Born in October 8, 1919 in Coleman, KY, he was the son of the late Wade and Gustavia (Dotson) Coleman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mae Coleman; infant son: Ricky Darrell Coleman; one daughter: Gwendolyn Kay McCarty; brothers: Cleo & Wayne Coleman, two infant brothers and two sisters: Polly and Lizzie Dotson.
Leo was a U.S Army veteran, a retired coal miner, and member of the UMWA. He was a member of the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church at Phelps.
He is survived by two sons: Tommy (Brenda) Coleman of McCarr, KY, Kenneth Leo (Elaine Charles) Coleman of Moshiem, TN; four daughters: Betty Lou (Melvin) Compton of Kimper, KY, Glenna (Floyd) Coleman of Phelps, KY, Karen Lynn (Chester) Adams of Pikeville, KY, and Sheila Coleman of Lexington, KY; one brother: Freddie (Barb) Coleman of Phelps; and two sisters: Mary Hatfield of Blackberry, KY, and Ruby Estep of Abington, VA; twelve grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 26th, 2015 at the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Jimmy Lee Smith & others officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Dotson Cemetery at Calloway, Phelps, KY. Military Honors will be performed by the Johns Creek DAV Chapter 166.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the church with services nightly at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps, KY. The guestbook may be signed at www.joneswestfh.com.
