Sam McCown

June 15, 1935 ~ March 24, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Sam McCown, 81, of Huddy, KY, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017.  He was born June 15, 1935 in Kimper, KY, a son of the late Dem & Ida McCoy McCown.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Carl McCown; brothers: Wade, Hayes, Roy, William Howard “Bud”, Frankie, & Thomas J. McCown; and sisters: Barbara Inis Edmiston, Ruth “Toot” Muncy, Ocie Farley, Polly McCown, Myrtle McCown, Gertrude “Trudy” Edmiston, and Sada May. 

Sam was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church and was the owner & operator of Sam’s Trucking for 40 years.  He was known for his skill in moving mobile homes to difficult locations.  He was also a former mining equipment operator.  Sam was a patient & devoted husband.  He & Zenna celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year on February the 25th.  Sam enjoyed his Levi Garrett chewing tobacco and loved being around people & socializing.  He never saw a stranger & was loved by everyone.  He would see many friends to speak to when he was out & about.  Even when on vacation, he’d run into someone he knew.  Sam was a kind & humble man who will surely be missed by his family & friends.       

Survivors include his wife: Zenna Alice “Smith” McCown; one daughter: Missie (Paul) Hatfield of Huddy, KY; grandchildren: Jason (Jacquetta) McCown of South Williamson, KY, Justin (Amy) McCown of Caledonia, MS, Jordan McCown of Huddy, KY, Jocelyn (Wes) Barnett of Lexington, KY, Josh McCown, of Huddy, KY, Amanda (BJ) Collins of Huddy, KY, Allison (Glen) Ford of Hardy, KY; great-grandchildren: Jayden, Jenna, Alyssa, Carli, & Jordyn McCown; special loved ones: Clara (Ronnie) Church of Huddy, KY, Jim (Elsie) Smith of Huddy, KY, Jennifer Lewis of Stone, KY, Barbara McFarland of Troy, OH; his dog: Taco; and a host of family and friends.    

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Octavia Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Mikey Smith officiating

Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY with family serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the church with special services 7:00 P.M. Monday evening conducted by Octavia Freewill Baptist ministers.
