Scotty Church

Scotty Church, 90, of Thacker, WV, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his residence.  He was born October 4, 1924 in Buchanan County Virginia, a son of the late George Washington & Betty Elizabeth Justice Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years: Virgie Sincell Church; one daughter: Mary Yates; two sons: Gary & Wayne Church; two brothers: Ellis & Buddy Church; six sisters: Dolly Church, Gladys Bentley, Lula Bentley, Amanda Bentley, Hulda Browning & Creda Dotson; one grandson: Gary Church Jr; one granddaughter: Shawnree Church; and a great grandson: Zachary Baisden.

Scotty was a retired coal miner and of the Apostolic faith.  He was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle in Jesus’ Name in Edgarton, WV.  

Survivors include his sons: Scotty Church Jr., Floyd Church, Alonzo (Loretta) Church, all of Thacker, Rocky (Lynn) Church of Delbarton, WV; daughters: Linda Church of Thacker,  Lois (Bill) Compton of Red Jacket, WV, JoAnn (Clarence) Kitts of Huntington, WV, Irene (Gene) Hess of Matewan, WV; 25 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Monday, August 17, 2015 at the Pentecostal Tabernacle in Jesus’ Name, Edgarton, WV, with Reverend Ronnie Wolford officiating.

Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery, Lynn, WV.  Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the church with services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
