Virgil Harrison Blankenship

Virgil Harrison Blankenship, age 77, of Phelps, KY, passed away Monday, October 2nd, 2017 at his residence.  Born June 5th, 1940 in Phelps, KY, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Gracie Pearl Lester Blankenship.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother:  Harold Blankenship & two sisters: Orpha Ogle, Gladys Layne. 

Virgil was a retired coal miner from Chisholm Coal Company and a member of the UMWA Local 1511.  He helped build the Lord’s House at Phelps, KY, of which he was a member and Deacon.  Virgil was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed going four-wheeling with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Mary Magdalene Blankenship; two sons: Calvin Michael (Viola) Blankenship of Clarksville, TN, Virgil Marcus (Andrea) Blankenship of Pikeville, KY; two brothers: Garney (Cheryl) Blankenship of Warsaw, IN, Emzie Blankenship of Freeburn, KY; one sister: Katherine (Sam) Remfrey of Warsaw, IN; four grandchildren: Chase Ryan Thompson & Cassady Blankenship of Clarksville, TN, Adam Marcus Blankenship & McKenzie Ashton Blankenship of Pikeville, KY; along with a host of family & friends to cherish his memory.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. Friday October 6th, 2017 at The Lord’s House with Reverends Mitch Bowling & Chris Casey officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY with friends & family serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the Lord’s House with special services at 7:00 P.M.
