Willis Casey

Willis Casey, 82, of Phelps, KY, passed away Thursday, November, 27, 2014 at the home of his daughter in Phelps. He was born August 26, 1932 in Phelps, a son of the late Perry and Della Stump Casey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Gail "Miller" Casey; one daughter: Kathy Ann Casey Blackburn; one brother: Willie Casey; six sisters: Mildred Casey, Myrtle Casey Smith, Annie Wojcikowski Bowen, Melda Casey Smith and two infant sisters. 
Willis was a retired coal miner and of the Protestant faith. He worked for the Old Ben Coal Company at Thacker, WV and was a member of the UMWA, having served as the president of Local UMWA 8840 for over forty years. He began his mining career hand-picking coal in his grandfather's mine when he was 11 years old. Hunting was his passion and every fall for many years, he would go to Tennessee on hunting trips with his family and friends. He enjoyed keeping his hunting dogs. Willis also liked to garden and enjoyed sharing what he had raised. He was a caring, free-giving man remembered by his family for always saying "Anytime you give something to somebody who needs it, you ain't lost a thing." 
Willis is survived by one daughter: Karen Lynn (Dennis) Mills of Phelps, KY; one brother: Perry Jr. (Lossie) Casey of TN; two sisters: Betty Jean Smith Stiltner of TN, Cora Wagner of Phelps; grandchildren: Christopher Allen Mills of Louisville, KY, Keith Aaron Mills of Phelps, Audrey Lynn Blackburn of Brooklyn, New York, great grandchildren: Derek Austin Riley of Olive Hill, KY, Sophia Catherine Mills of Louisville, KY, Ayden Keith Mills of Phelps and a host of nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Jones & West Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in the Sanders Family Cemetery at Phelps. Friends may call after 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Special services will be held at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Opie Harris officiating & signing by the Church of God choir. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps, KY.
