Walter “Jake” Thorpe Jr., 60 of Freeburn, KY, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. He was born September 2, 1957 in Phelps, KY, a son of Walter Thorpe Sr. of Detroit, MI and the late Josephine Lockhart Thorpe.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Eli & Sophie Thorpe; two uncles: Roland & Estelle Thorpe; two aunts: Mae Chapman & Billy Jean Adkins; three nephews: William Thorpe, George & James Wallace.
Jake was a mechanic. He loved working on cars & passed his skills on to his brother. He was also a former machine shop worker in Detroit, Michigan. He loved hunting, fishing, and planting. Jake had a green thumb and could practically grow tomatoes on rocks.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include one son: Christopher; four sisters: Julie Anne Wallace & Rosalee Pate of Detroit, MI, Darlene Thorpe of Phelps, KY, Pauline Mounts of Freeburn, KY; two brothers: Lonnie Thorpe (Virginia Robertson) of McCarr, KY, Earl Thorpe (Kathy) of Hardy, KY; aunts: Fronia Mitchell of Dublin, OH, Ruby Justice of Maxie, VA; stepmother: Bozena Thorpe of Detroit, MI; and special friends: Evelyn Bentley & Janetta Dotson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in the chapel of the Jones & West Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Casey officiating.
Burial will follow in the Freeburn Community Cemetery with Samuel Spicer, Ryan Dotson, Jerry Coleman, Lester Salmons & Andy Ferrell serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M Tuesday at the funeral home.
