Agnes Oretha (Gilbert) Thompson

With humble acceptance of Gods will we announce the passing of Agnes Oretha Thompson, 88, of Phelps, Kentucky on August 27th, 2024, while inpatient at Pikeville Medical Center.  Born on December 31st, 1935, Agnes was the daughter of the late Garnet and Sadie Mae Gilbert of Pocahontas VA.

Agnes was preceded in death by her loving husband of  46 years, Bobby Gareth Thompson, her parents, and brothers, Barnes, Clarence, Garnet Junior and sisters, Gladys, Mary Alice, and Reba.  

She is survived by her daughter, Oretha Norman and son, Brian Kevin Thompson of Phelps and son, Bobby Gareth Thompson (Tammy) of Bean Station Tennessee. She is the grandmother of Bobby Gareth Thompson III  (Christy) and Kerry Amanda Howard (Matthew) of Richmond KY,  Halie Oretha Elswick (Shane) of Harold KY, Taylor Austin Norman of Georgetown, KY and Sadie Madison Wyman (Aaron) of Turners Station, KY and is Golden Grandma to Natalie Kate and Stephanie Blake Norman, Sophie Elswick, Brandon Thornberry, Kaden James Conley, and Kenzie Grace Howard.

Agnes was an exceptionally loving and caring wife and mother.  Agnes was of the Church of Christ faith.  She will most certainly be missed by her family and a host of nieces and nephews.  Grief is the price we pay for love.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. on August 30th, 2024 at the Jones & West Funeral Home in Phelps, Kentucky. 

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel with Brother Marshall Daniels officiating.

Interment will conclude at Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, VA.
