Arlie Lee Young

Arlie Lee Young age 77, of Phelps, KY departed this life Monday, May 18, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, KY. He was born August 3, 1942 at Phelps, KY the son of Zora (Slone) Young Blankenship and the late Beaul Dencil Young.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his stepfather; Bert Blankenship, two brothers; Eugene and Walter Young, two sisters; Nyoka and Mary Dean Young.

Arlie worked as a blaster in the strip mine industry having worked for Coal Mac. He was also a logger and timber cutter. He was a bit of an old timer who enjoyed talking about the good old days. His favorite saying was “ There’s better days coming.” Arlie was an avid chicken fighter who enjoyed photography and took many pictures.

Survivors remaining to honor his memory include his loving wife; Mary Ann Young, a son; Darrell (Mindy) Smith of Garrett, KY, two brothers; Otto (Reta) Young of MT Sterling, KY and Richard Young of Pikeville, KY, three sisters; Marilee Borum of Phelps, KY, Judith (David) Showalter of Phelps, KY and Bessie Blankenship of Stopover, KY, a granddaughter; Cheyenne Smith of Garrett, KY, his favorite cake-baker; Montana Blankenship,  special friend; William Hurley of Phelps, KY, special nephew; James Blankenship of Stopover, KY and a special great nephew; Colton Newsome. He is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.

A family gathering will be held in the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel Friday, May 22, 2020 at 12:00 P.M.

with the Reverend Odis Blankenship officiating.

Burial will follow in the Barker Cemetery located in Right Fork Hurricane of Stopover, KY.

Visitation will be in the chapel Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00 P.M. 

 Due to the restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic we can only use one third of our chapel’s seating capacity.

Common areas such as the kitchen will be closed.
