With a sorrowful heart we announce the passing of Charles Lewis Lee, age 83, of Freeburn, KY, on April 14th, 2025, while inpatient at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born at Vulcan, WV, on April 29th, 1941, to the late Sherman and Virginia “Mounts” Lee.
Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Halbert “Buddy” Lee, and Dallas Lee, and sisters, Shirley Bentley, and Bernice Pruitt.
Charles was married 63 years to his sweetheart Glendella “Layne” Lee. The two sweethearts knew each other for 67 years. When dating he would walk from Sand Siding to Johnson Bottom. He would even make the walk with a broken leg using crutches just to see his sweetheart, Glendella. Charles was a retired coal miner and a member of the Freeburn Church of God. Charles enjoyed hunting and mowing his grass. His yard was his paradise, and his family was his pride and joy.
Those surviving Charles include his cherished wife of 63 years, Glendella Lee of Freeburn, KY; one son, Charles Michael (Madeline) Lee of Ivel, KY; two daughters, Tammy Lee of Pikeville, KY, and Sandra Lee of Betsy Layne, KY; one brother, Sherman Bradley Lee of TN; and three sisters, Maxine (Roger) Hall, Margaret (Doug) Maynard both of Sugar Hill and Lena (Monk) Dotson of Phelps, KY.
Charles was the cherished grandfather to Valerie Samons, Krisa Lee, Hannah Lee, James Blankenship, and David Bowling, three great-grandchildren, Jayda Blankenship, Madi Blankenship and Brihannah Hale.
Honoring the wishes of Charles, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 16th, 2025 at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Huddy, Kentucky with Pastor Dennie Land officiating.
The family requested no food or flowers.
