Clarence Dotson Jr., 74, of Wellington, KY left us on Friday, April 24th, 2026, likely to go find George Jones sitting in his favorite rocking chair. Clarence, known to the locals as “Jr.,” was a devoted dad, grandfather, brother, and friend. Let’s face it, he was just an all-around good guy.
He was a retired 50-year UMWA member and raised his family working as a coal miner for 20 years, most of his time at Chisholm Mines.
Jr. was the son of Clarence Dotson Sr. & Fronia Marie (Whitt) Dotson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernis Casey and Lois Wolford, and grandchildren, Somer DeLynn Dean and Jonathan Dotson.
Clarence is survived by his son, Clarence Michael Dotson (Brenda) of Means, KY; daughter, Delia Haynes (Kevin) of Kimper, KY; one brother, William Eddie Dotson of Kimper, KY; two sisters, Joyce Smith (Ronald) and Linda Smith (Paul Robert) both of Phelps, KY; grandchildren, Brienna Dotson (Tyler), Clarissa Dean, Ronald Clarence Dotson, Robert Dotson, Ryan Dotson, Liam Dotson, and Gracie Dotson.
He is also survived by his ex-wife, Lora Norman Dotson of Pikeville, KY. He will forever be missed by “P. S.,” cousin Clifford Hurley and special friends, “Little Man” Daniels, Bradley Brown, Jaxton Tate Daniels, and his neighbors, Toby & Lisa Williams.
Our hearts are heavy, but he wouldn’t want it that way. Instead, he would want us to turn up George Jones and put a smile on our face, as he “steps right up” and takes The Grand Tour.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27th, 2026 from 6-9 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East with special singing at 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 with Pastor Benny Freeman officiating.
Burial will follow at Billy Dotson Cemetery in Phelps, KY with friends & family serving as Pallbearers.
