Della Rae (Adkins) Layne

Della Rae (Adkins) Layne, age 78, of Phelps, Kentucky passed away at her residence on January 21st, 2026.  She was born in Phelps, Kentucky, on March 26th, 1947, the beloved daughter of the late John & Pearl (Blankenship) Adkins.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her loving husband, Leon “Japeye” Layne.

Della was a proud homemaker, and she found her greatest joy in caring for her family, especially the treasured moments she shared with her grandchildren.  Della was a fun-loving person who had a beautiful soul.  Her warm laughter and smile always filled the room with love.  In her spare time, she enjoyed watching tv, especially her game shows and she loved going shopping.  She was a true gift to all who loved her and she will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her kind, gentle heart.

Those surviving Della include her children, Keith (Crystal) Layne, and Keithella (Steve) Matney; one brother, John Jr. (Beverly) Adkins, and one sister, Emma Wolford, all of Phelps, KY.  Della was the proud grandmother of Keisha (Andrew) Hatfield, Colby (Teonna) Layne, Jessica Rowe and her fiancé Jayden, and Keirah Layne.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home in Phelps, Kentucky. 

Funeral services will begin right after visitation at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel with Reverend Mitch Bowling officiating.

Burial will be in the Fletcher-Layne Cemetery at Gabriel in Kimper, Kentucky.
