Della Mae (Whitt) Murphy

Mrs. Della Mae Murphy, age 86, of Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of Beech Creek, W.Va. passed away April 23rd, 2025.  She was born on August 21st, 1938, the loving daughter of the late Harvey & Lizzie Whitt. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her cherished husband, Kermit Murphy Jr., one son, Marvin Murphy, two sisters, Leona (Ransom) Prater, and Mary Ann (Bill) Moore, a brother, Eddie Whitt and her grandson, Billy David Slone.

Della was a proud homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family.  She was of the Baptist faith.  Her memories will forever be remembered and the love she shared will never be forgotten.

Della is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Dave) Slone of Murfreesboro, TN; her son, Kermit (Nellie) Murphy of Rawl, W.Va.; one sister, Phyllis Horn of Oakwood, VA.  

She had a special nephew, Ransom JR (Anita) Prater of Phelps, KY.  He called her every Sunday until she was no longer able to talk on the phone. 

She is the adored grandmother to three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.   Della also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 Noon Sunday, April 27th, 2025 at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East in Phelps. 

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. after visitation in the chapel with Pastor Harold Layne & Casey Cisco officiating. 

The burial will follow at the Prater Cemetery in Stopover, Kentucky, with friends & family serving as Pallbearers.
