Ebbie (Bentley) Lester

Ebbie (Bentley) Lester, age 82, resident of Phelps, KY, passed away on May 27th, 2025, at the Pikeville Medical Center surrounded by the love of her family. 

Ebbie was born at Thacker, W.Va. on May 27th, 1943, the cherished daughter of the late Harold & Lula (Church) Bentley.

Besides her parents, Ebbie was also preceded by her husband, Johnnie Lester, brothers, Blake Bentley, Elmer (Sambo) Bentley, Harold Jr. Bentley, and Bobbie Bentley.

Ebbie was a loving wife and mother who was always kind to everyone she met.  She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  She was a Christian of the Church of God faith.  Ebbie was a proud homemaker and later a cleaning lady for Kentucky Carbon and then ECSI for many years.

Those remaining to cherish Ebbie’s memory and legacy include her children, Ivory Diana (David) Casey of Pikeville, KY, and Johnnie (Tabitha) Lester Jr of Phelps, KY; sisters, Edna (Jessie) Hatfield, Lucy Bentley; sister-in-law, Cora Bentley and her family; and a niece, Christian Hatfield.

Ebbie was the proud grandmother of Brandon David Casey of Rochester, NY, Justin Ryan Casey of Pikeville, KY, Miranda (DJ) Bailey of Matewan, W.Va., Tiffany (JR) King of Bessemer, AL, and Courtney (Jordan) Lester of Chesapeake, OH; great-grandchildren, Kaden & Kenadi Clark, Gracie & Jocelyn (Ebbie) Fouch, Dillon and Joseph King. 

Ebbie’s extended family, who she loved as her own, Michael Ryan, Marcus Victoriano, and Thalia Rojas, and Brandon Fields.  

Ebbie cherished her family, and she loved them all dearly.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. Friday, May 30th, 2025 at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East in Phelps.  Pastor’s Opie Ray Harris, Sonny Boyd and Derek Hall will be officiating the service at 7:00 P.M.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31st, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel with Boldman Freewill Baptist Church officiants presiding. 

Burial will follow at Lester Cemetery in Phelps, Kentucky with friends and family serving as Pallbearers.
