Farrell Edward Smith of Phelps, KY passed away February 2, 2021 at his residence. He was born February 18, 1949 in Phelps, KY the son of the late Ernest and Maggie Ruth “Hackney” Smith. He was 71 years old.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Gary David Smith and infant brother Donald Smith, his father and mother-in-law: Bobby and Julia "Chapman" Gooslin, a sister-in-law: Pearl Marie Casey and a brother-in-law: Samuel Ray Gooslin.
Farrell was a retired coal miner having worked for Kentland Elkhorn Coal Company and a United Mine Workers of America member. He genuinely loved his family and enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds. He was a member of the ARHA American Rabbit Hunter’s Association and enjoyed rabbit hunting. Farrell raised Beagle hunting dogs and had several to win the world championship. He was also a member of the National Kennel Club and help start the first one in his area. Farrell loved all his little dogs Yuki, Zendra and the late Peanut. He also loved his cat Sunshine. He attended the Lord’s House Church of Phelps, KY where he was a member. Farrell was also a big UK fan and enjoyed his Kentucky Wildcats!
Survivors remaining to honor his memory include his wife of 48 years: Karen “Gooslin” Smith, Aaron (Amanda) Blankenship of Phelps, KY who was the son he never had, three brothers: Ernest Darrell Smith (Sheila) of Phelps, KY, Arlin James “Sonny” Smith (Rosemary) of Phelps, KY, and Barry Bruce Smith of North Carolina, a sister: Dixie Fonner of Johnstown, OH, special friend: Phillip Reese & family of Franklin, OH, sisters-in-law: Florence (Tim) Miner of Lexington, KY and Leona Little of Kimper, KY. He is also survived by special nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at The Lord’s House Church of Phelps, KY Sunday February 7, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverends Mitchell Bowling, Chris Casey, and Mike Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery of Smith Fork, Phelps, KY.
Visitation will be at the church Saturday evening beginning at 6:00 P.M. with special services at 7:00 P.M.
