Gary Fletcher Obituary

Gary “Fletch” Lynn Fletcher, 60, of Kimper, KY, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY.  He was born October 3, 1959, in Freeburn, KY, a son of the late John R. and Rebecca (Wolford) Fletcher.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by four brothers: Ronnie Fletcher, Jerry Fletcher, Jimmy Darrell Fletcher (infant,) Jimmy Douglas Fletcher (infant.)

Fletch was a retired coal miner, having worked for McCoy Elkhorn Coal Corporation.  He was of the Christian faith – Church of God denomination.  Fletch loved anything to do with horses.  He loved to breed, raise, ride, and race them.  He loved fishing with his wife Fayetta – that was “their thing.”  He loved following his UK Wildcats, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cincinnati Reds.  Most of all, he loved spending time with and loving his grandchildren.    

Those left to honor his memory include his wife: Fayetta (Layne) Fletcher of Kimper, KY; one son:  Travis (Jessica LeeAnn) Fletcher of Shelbyville, KY; one daughter:  Jessica Lynn (Fletcher) & Travis Adams; four sisters:  Barbara Brizendine of Phelps, KY, Carol Green of Phelps, KY, Debbie (James) Daughtery of Phelps, KY, & JoAnna Fletcher of Phelps KY, six grandchildren: Trevor & Brayden Fletcher, Conner, Gavin, Jaxon, & Gary Tucker Adams.  He also leaves a host of nieces & nephews that he loved very much.

Fletch had a family of non-biological brothers as well.  He called them “brothers from different mothers.”  They include Sam Smith, Keith “Kebo” Turnmire, Chris Anderson, Kenny Runyon, Ronald “Runt” Ward, Larry Wayne Abbott, Keith “Jap” Layne.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 Saturday, January 11th, 2020 at the Jones & West Funeral Chapel with Reverend Benny Freeman & Harold Layne. 

Burial will follow at the Fletcher/Layne Family Cemetery in Kimper, KY.  Immediately following burial service, a dinner will be held at the Kimper Community Center.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
