Gary Layne

Gary Layne Sr. age 72, a life long resident of Phelps, Ky. departed this life on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at his home.

Born December 8, 1948 in Phelps, Ky. A son of the late Howard Wolford and Flora Layne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Dotson Layne; grandparents who raised him, Granville and Princie Layne, a son, Brian Buddy Scott, sister, Gladys Lester, and brothers, Elmer and Lanny Dean.

He leaves to mourn his passing and honor his loving memory, sons, Gary (Delorse) Layne and Andy Layne, both or Phelps, Ky; and daughter, Annie Stump also of Phelps; brother's Doug and Linda Layne, and Kyle and Loretta Wolford, his sisters, Virtie and Timmy Sawyers, and Sheila Ferrell; and the ladies at Double Kwik who work with Annie. He leaves three grandchildren, Josh (Angel) Stump, Jessica (Curtis) Hamilton, and Mikey Fonner; 7 great grandchildren, Rylan, Alaya, Brinley, Joshlynn, Greyson, Ellie, and Emily; He also leaves his good friends, Jeff Young, Wanda Coleman, Linda Stump, sister- in-law, Teresa Wolford, Maebelle Hurley and a host of friends and children who he thought of as his grandchildren.

Gary was a disabled coal miner. He was of the Church of God faith.  He was a good mechanic and enjoyed working on vehicles. He loved nature and often rode his ATV into the mountains to be closer to the natural beauty that our mountains offer.  His greatest joy in this life was his family and grandchildren who he had a special love for.  

Visitation will begin Saturday October 23, 2021 at the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel at 6:00 P.M. there will be special services on Saturday and Sunday night at 7:00 P.M. and his funeral will be Monday October the 25 at 1:00 P.M. with Odis Blankenship, Buddy Gannon and Larry Blackburn officiating the services. Burial will be at the family cemetery at Phillips Branch in Phelps, Ky.
