George Jackson Jr., 87, resident of Phelps, Kentucky, departed this life on January 22nd, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center. George was born in Phelps, Kentucky on September 4th, 1938, a son of the late George Jackson Sr. and Ermal Smith. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Jackson; his son, Angelo Jackson; a granddaughter, Johnda (Stump) Dotson and a sister, Angie Nyokia Justice.
George was a retired coal miner of Caney Branch Coal and of the Freewill Baptist Faith. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, and a friend to many. Spending time with his family and grandchildren was the enjoyment of his days and they were all so special to him, but he had one that he thought of as his very own, Chris Stump. In his spare time, he enjoyed a good poker game.
Those surviving George include his loving wife of being together for 31 years, Dolly Gail Jackson of Phelps, KY; sons, George Randall Jackson of Florahome, FL, Jamie Jackson of Phelps, KY; daughters, Sue (Johnny) Stump of Phelps, KY, Barbara Young (Buddy Francis) of Phelps, KY, and Georgetta (Kenny) Patrick of Whitman, W.V.; brothers, Virgil Jackson of Chesapeake, OH, and Bernard Jackson of McCarr, KY; one sister, Margaret Ann Estep of McCarr, KY; and a stepson, Timmy Lell of Stopover, KY.
George was the beloved grandfather of Chris Stump of Phelps, KY, Lynn Stump of Phelps, KY, Wendy Young of Sevierville, TN, Rodney Young of Phelps, Ky, Randy Jackson of Jefferson, KY, Shawn Michael Jackson of FL, Andy Jackson of Irvine, KY, Pamela McCoy of Thacker, W.V., Michelle Jackson of Thacker, W.V., and Berlynna Jackson of Thacker, W.V.; 19 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
George will be remembered for his hard work, dedication to his family, and the love he so freely gave them.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 26th, 2026, beginning at 6:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East. Special services will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Pastors, Ricky Ferrell and Tommy Dotson officiating.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 in the chapel.
Burial will follow at the Lydia Smith Cemetery at Bones Branch in Phelps, Kentucky.
