James Douglas ("JD") Daugherty

James Douglas “JD” Daugherty age 36, resident of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 11th, 2025, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.

JD was born October 22nd, 1988, at Pikeville, Kentucky, the son of Jessie James & Debra (Fletcher) Daugherty both of Phelps, Kentucky. 

JD is preceded in death by grandparents, Estel & Nola Daugherty, and Junior & Jean Fletcher, two special uncles, Jeff “Buck” Daugherty and his great uncle, Hoover Wolford, and a host of other aunts & uncles.

JD was a 2007 graduate of Phelps High School and a member of the Thomas DeVenny Lodge 928 of Freeburn, Kentucky.  JD was of the Freewill Baptist Faith.  He loved going to the lodge, visiting his neighborhood friends and watching UK Basketball.  He was a proud member of the Phelps Fire Department.  JD loved sitting out and watching traffic and waiting to see if someone happened to stop by.  He loved his family; they were everything to him.  JD had so many special friends so we can’t just mention one because there were so many.  So, if he called you, texted, or messaged you or just took a ride out to see you then you will know who you are.  You were all so special to his heart and he loved and appreciated your friendship.

In addition to JD’s parents, Jessie James & Debra Daugherty of Phelps, KY, he is also survived by his beautiful cousin that he called sissy Jeanna Frazier of Richmond, KY.  Their bond was unbreakable and she was so special to his heart.  Also, his right-hand man, uncle Gene Daugherty of Phelps, KY. 

 JD is survived by a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held nightly August 14th, & 15th, 2025 beginning at 6:00 P.M. with Masonic rites at 7:00 P.M. Thursday night.  Friday night special services will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Mitch Bowling & Chris Casey officiating at the Jones & West Funeral Home.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 16th, 2025 in the chapel with Pastor Larry Rife officiating. 

Burial will follow at Billy Dotson Cemetery in Phelps, Kentucky with friends & family serving as Pallbearers.
