Jerry Edward Dotson

Jerry Edward Dotson, age 80, of Phelps, Kentucky, transitioned to his heavenly home on November 28th, 2025.  He was born at Paw Paw, Kentucky, on June 15th, 1945, the loving son of the late Flem & Hazel (Scarberry) Dotson. 

In addition to Jerry’s parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Hershel Dotson, brothers, Kermit (Jewel) Dotson, Estil (Betty) Dotson, Mack Dotson, and Dave Dotson, and one sister, Dolly Sargent.

Jerry was a member of Kelsa Freewill Baptist Church, where his faith in the Lord guided his life. His passion for serving the Lord never went unnoticed.  He devoted many years to the coal mining industry, a hard worker, he earned the respect of many throughout his community.  Jerry was also known as the neighborhood barber.  In his free time, he enjoyed playing bluegrass music on his guitar and mandolin at home and he liked to ginseng.

Jerry’s greatest pride was his family.  He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Dotson of Phelps, KY; a son, Anthony Dotson of Phelps, KY; two daughters-in-law, Tasha Dotson of Phelps, KY, and Christy Dotson of Weber City, VA; brothers, Howard (Ida Mae) Dotson of Phelps, KY, Danny (Diane) Dotson of Phelps, Ky, Robert (Debbie) Dotson of Phelps, KY; sisters, Jenny (Rodger) Cantrell of Phelps, KY, Okie (Kenny) Jackson of Hurley, VA, Merle Hurley of Phelps, KY, Annie Carol Blankenship of Hurley, VA; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Sue Dotson of Big Rock, VA, and Patricia (Dave) Dotson of VA; and one brother-in-law, Larry Sargent of Hurley, VA.

Jerry was the proud Papaw of Connor Dotson of Phelps, KY, and Melanie Dotson of Hylton, VA.  

Jerry’s legacy is one of love, hard work, generosity, and serving the Lord.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  His happy spirit will live on in the memories he created with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held each night beginning Wednesday & Thursday, December 3rd, & 4th, 2025 at Kelsa Freewill Baptist Church in Hurley, Virginia at 6:00 P.M. and service at 7:00 P.M. with Pastors Ronnie & Ervin Hurley, and Willie Coleman officiating.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 5th, 2025 at the church with the pastors of the church officiating. 

The burial will conclude at the Dotson Cemetery at Paw Paw, Kentucky with friends serving as Pallbearers.
