With great sadness we announce the passing of Jessie Stump, 93, of Phelps, Kentucky. Jessie ended his race as he wished at home with his wife, children, and grandchildren by his side on September 24th, 2024, at Abes Branch in Jamboree, Kentucky.
Jessie was born on February 27th, 1931, to the late McClellan & Edda (Smith) Stump of Coleman, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by one son, Eddie Dotson of Sevierville, TN, four brothers, Arthur Stump, Willis Stump, Leonard Stump, and Andy Stump, nine sisters, Pearl Hurley, Esta Simon, Annie Stump, Ocie Smith, Dorsie Stump, Zettie Rice, Rosie Tilley, Vestie Smith, and Martha Stiltner, and three granddaughters, Amy Suzanne McCoy, Candace Brooke Stiltner, and Johnda Sue Stump.
Jessie was of the Protestant Faith at Jamboree Church of God where he was on the Pastors Council Committee in his younger days. Jessie was a retired coal miner, and he enjoyed reminiscing of his past days with his friends working there. He enjoyed timbering for Luther & Fonso Smith and working in carpentry and using a chain saw cutting down trees. Jessie had several special hobbies including squirrel hunting in the mountains at Smith Fork, gardening and raising tomatoes, and talking to his sweet neighbors. He was a family man and took great pride in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and his wonderful friends.
Those surviving Jessie includes his treasured wife, Opal Stump of Phelps, KY; two sons, Leonard (Jennifer) Stump and Johnny (Sue) Stump both of Phelps, KY; seven daughters, Diane Estep-Dotson of Sevierville, TN, Kathy (Bobby) McCoy of Phelps, KY, Sherry (Howard) Norman of Freeburn, KY, Jessie Kender of Phelps, KY, Ruth Stump of Campton, KY, Delores (Gary) Layne of Strawberry Plains, TN, and Lisa Stump of Phelps, KY; grandchildren, James Dotson, Penny (Dennis) Jones, Milford Dotson and Georgina Thacker of Sevierville, TN, Lynitta Aburas, Crystal (Corey) Graper, Ervin (Tonya) Stump of Sevierville, TN, Chris (Michelle) Stump of Phelps, Sondra Stump of Phelps, KY, Eric Estep and Audrea (Adam) Potter of Sevierville, TN, Misty (Shane) Dotson of Majestic, KY, Bobby Darrin McCoy of Phelps, KY, Shawn (Chassie) Norman and Melissa Mitchell of Freeburn, KY, Michele (Shawn) Grimmet of Fairmont, WV, Jerrika (Tanner) Cline of Freeburn, KY, Ashley (Donald) Estep of Kimper, KY. Derek (Lindsey) Daniels, Georgetown, KY, Joshua (Angel) Stump of Georgetown, KY, Jessica (Curtis) Hamilton of Phelps, KY, Colby (Brittany) Stump of Georgetown, KY, and Corey Stump of Harlin, KY. Also survived by sisters, Opal Stevenson, Judy Caccavilla and Tilda Gilliam.
Also surviving Jessie are numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Special friends, Tim Dove, Billy Dotson, Stacee Brewer and Lester Pipkins. He had two special pets, Cricket and Ginger which he adored in his late life.
Jessie, sweet husband, daddy, and papaw. He will be extremely missed. It was a joy to have, love, and cherish him for all these years. Our only joy in letting him go was that his prayers to be home when his life ended was accomplished and to be near his family.
We aren’t saying goodbye to Jessie. My husband, my children’s daddy, and grandchildren’s Papaw but so long for now. I’ll see you soon!
The Stump family would like to extend their appreciation to all of Jessie’s friends who visited him at home, in the hospital, bringing food by, or just showing to our family the consideration and love during the loss of this precious one, Jessie Stump.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27th, 2024 from 6-10 P.M. at Jamboree Church of God located at 36442 State Highway 194 East in Jamboree, KY.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 28th, 2024 at the church.
Interment will conclude at Davidson Memorial Gardens in Ivel, Kentucky.
