Jimmy Bowling

Jimmy Bowling, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026, at his residence. A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love for his family, and a life well lived.

Jimmy was a proud coal miner and a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, who carried a strong sense of duty and resilience throughout his life. He was known for his love of the outdoors, especially camping trips spent with his family, where many cherished memories were made. He also had a passion for working on old cars, always finding joy in bringing something worn back to life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann (Edwards) Bowling, the love of his life, whom he married in 1968 and shared many wonderful years with until her passing in 2014; his parents, James Ermal & Emma Jane (Hatfield) Bowling; one brother, Johnny Bowling, two sisters, Lucille McIntosh, and Ollie Jane Casey; and his favorite dog Butch.

Jimmy is survived by his children: Anita (George) Compton, Sondra (Rick) Coleman, Megan (Haskell) Sheppard, and Seth (Robin) Bowling; one sister, Tammy Bowling of NC. 

He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Keanna (Anthony) Davis, Hayley (Brandon) Kendall, Sydney (Andrew) Lester, Katie Pugh (Brandon Turnmire), and Noah Leedy; great grandchildren, Levi, Owen, Lacie, Asher, and Jayce; and a host of extended family, and many friends who will deeply miss him.

Jimmy will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to his family, and the simple joys he found in life. His presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family welcomes friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 22nd, and Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 6-9 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East with service beginning at 7:00 P.M. nightly with Pastors Tommy Dotson and Robert Coleman officiating.

The funeral service will begin on Friday, April 24th, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. with Eddie Dotson officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by Belfry, KY Chapter #141 of the Disabled American Veterans.    

Burial will be at the Freeburn Community Cemetery in Freeburn, KY.
