John Nelson Ray Jr.

John Nelson Ray Jr., 80, of Phelps, KY, passed away at his residence on March 14th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Nelson was born on August 18th, 1945, in Richmond, VA, to his parents the late Nelson Ray Sr. and Tennessee Ray.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Henry Ray and Jason Lee Ray. 

Nelson as he was fondly known by was a beloved dad, grandpa, sibling and friend to many.  He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when it was fishing and squirrel hunting.  Nelson also liked to go and visit his friends and enjoy their company.

Those surviving to honor the memory of Nelson include his daughter, Virginia Adams and her husband Harold of Thacker, W.V.; grandchildren, Sarah Adams, Bethany Adams, John Adams, James Adams, Jacob Adams, Amber Adams, Harold Adams Jr. and Zachary Adams; 6 great-grandchildren; a host of brothers, sisters, extended family and friends.
