With a heavy heart and sadness, we announce the passing of Johnny Prater 68, of Stopover, KY on August 27th, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
Johnny was born at Woodman, KY, on December 24th, 1955, a loving son of the late Levi & Dora Prater. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his son, Jamie Prater, and his siblings, Sonny Prater, Millard Prater, Ocie Prater, Darold Prater, Donald Prater, Jeff Prater, Arthur Prater, Doris Evans, Glendene Hatfield, and Sue Prater.
Johnny was a retired coal miner working 22 years in the mines. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors porch sitting, camping, fishing, and bird watching. Johnny was a family man and adored spending time with his grandbabies and watching them play. He also enjoyed hanging out with his buddies and loved all animals. Johnny enjoyed getting his Dairy Queen breakfast on occasion.
Those surviving to honor Johnny’s legacy include his cherished wife, Ernestine Prater of Stopover, KY; his loving children, Mindy (Josie) Adkins, Amy Marie (Crash) Craddock, Michael (Melissa) Prater, Danny (Amber) Curry, Stacey (Syn Syn) May, Crystal (Henry) Thomas, Kenny (Tina) Curry, Johnny Levi Prater, Billy (Brooke) Curry, Alisse Curry, Cecilia Prater, Aiden Curry, and Ace Curry; two brothers, Harold and Ronnie Prater; three sisters, Charlene Chaufner, Carlene Curry, and Mary Thomas; 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren and 2 bonus grandchildren, Jacelynn Wallace (J-Bug), and Hunter Scott (Hun-Hun).
Johnny also leaves behind a loving host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 2nd, 2024 from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home in Phelps, KY. and special services beginning at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Benny Freeman officiating.
Honoring Johnny’s wishes cremation will take place after visitation AND JOHNNY ASKED THAT NO CELL PHONES OR CAMERAS BE BROUGHT INTO THE SERVICE. PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE VEHICLE.
