Kennis McCoy

With the saddest of hearts, we regret to announce that Kennis McCoy went to be with the Lord on April 2nd, 2025.  Kennis, age 76, resident of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away at his home, which was his wish, surrounded by the love of his family.

Kennis was born in Phelps, Kentucky on April 20th, 1948, a loving son of the late Fon McCoy Sr. & Cora Mae “Sullivan” McCoy.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his brothers, Verlin McCoy Sr., Sherman McCoy Sr., and three sisters, Leona Slone, Pearlene Taylor, and Flora Evans.

Kennis was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A.  He was of the Apostolic faith, and he was the Pastor for a short while of the Jesus Tabernacle Church at Fedscreek, KY.  He loved traveling to different churches and playing music with his brother, Fon.  He enjoyed going to church socials and dinners on the ground. 

Those surviving Kennis include his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Faye “Adkins” McCoy of Phelps, KY; cherished daughter, Marlene (Joe) Salvino of Phelps, KY; two brothers, Reverend Hobert (Libby) McCoy, and Fon Jr. (Sandra) McCoy of Phelps, KY; and a host of nieces & nephews, extended family and friends.

Kennis found joy in spending time with his family.  His legacy of dedication, friendship, and kindness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on Friday, April 4th, & 5th, 2025 at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 Highway 194 East with special services on Saturday at 7:00 P.M. with Melvin McCoy Jr.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 6th, 2025 in the chapel with Reverend Hobert McCoy officiating.  
Interment will be completed at the Billy Dotson Cemetery in Phelps, Kentucky. 

Justin McCoy, Dawson McCoy, Tucker McCoy, Fon Alan McCoy, and Josh Baker will serve as Pallbearers.
