Larry Eldridge Obituary

Larry Eldridge, 75, of Grundy, Virginia, formerly of Phelps, KY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Born on January 10, 1951, in Freeburn, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William Eldridge and Thelma McClanahan Eldridge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tex Eldridge, Dallas “Dal” Eldridge, Frank Norman, and Buddy Eldridge, and his sisters, Janie Dotson and Lula Mae Eldridge.

Larry was a dedicated coal miner who spent his life working hard and providing for his family. A faithful member of the Apostolic faith, he lived with a deep appreciation for God’s blessings and the simple joys of life.

Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Larry loved making people laugh and never met a stranger. Those who knew him will forever remember one of his favorite expressions, “Upon my word and honor,” a phrase that reflected the honesty, integrity, and sincerity with which he lived his life.

He cherished the outdoors and found great happiness in nature, especially while hunting and fishing. Deer and squirrel hunting were among his favorite pastimes, and he was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Above all, Larry was an ordinary man in the best sense of the word—an all-around good guy who loved his family, treasured the beauty of creation, and embraced life wholeheartedly.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Steven Eldridge of Phelps, Kentucky, and Johnathan Eldridge of Grundy, Virginia, a grandchild who he raised as a son; his daughter, Rebecca (Benny) Gooslin of Grundy, Virginia; and his beloved granddaughter, Jasher Leigh Eldridge.  Larry also leaves behind a special person and friend, Katherine Eldridge of Phelps, KY.

Larry will be remembered for his laughter, his love of the outdoors, his unwavering devotion to his family, and the kindness he shared with everyone he met. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
