Martha May

With great sadness and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Martha May of Phelps, Ky.  Martha passed away at the Good Shephard Nursing Facility May 18, 2022.  Martha was born July 31, 1928, at LeeMaster, Va. 

In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her first husband Lon Smith.  Also, her second husband, Walter May.  Three sons, Teddy Smith, James May, and Bud May.  Four brothers, Ernest, Jennings, David, and Teddy Wayne.  Five sisters, Myrtle Wagner, Marie Charles, Catheline Lockhart, Madeline Boyd, and Dorothy Hibbitts.

Martha was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Smith Fork in Phelps, Ky.  Her many hobbies included quilting, reading, and gardening.  Martha enjoyed bird watching and taking care of her flowers.  Most of all, she loved the Lord and all the blessings he bestowed upon her life.  Her family and friends she cherished dearly, and she will be missed sorely.

Those left to honor the memory of Martha are her children, Jimmy Lee (Ina Ruth) Smith, of Phelps, Ky.  Jan (Darrell) Fannin of Phelps, Ky.  Lonetta Hunt of Raccoon, Ky.  Nina Gail (Glen) Varney of Canada, Ky.  Martha leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a countless number of friends. 

The family will welcome friends at 6:00 P.M. May 20, 2022, at the Primitive Baptist Church at Smith Fork.  The funeral service will begin at 12:00 Noon May 21, 2022, at the church.  Elders of the church will be ministering.  Interment will conclude at George W. Dotson Cemetery in Phelps, Ky.
