Miles Michael Casey

Miles Michael Casey, age 70, resident of Phelps, Kentucky was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on March 15th, 2025.  Michael was born in Matewan, WV, on December 22nd, 1954, a loving son of the late Miles & Avalene “Stump” Casey. 

In addition to Michael’s parents, he was also preceded by his granddaughter, Emily Hurley, his brother, Lester Casey, and brother-in-law, William Stevenson.

Michael carried forward a legacy of hard work and dedication as a retired coal miner and member of the U.M.W.A. Local 8288.  Michael was the Pastor of Mill Fork Freewill Baptist Church for 30 years, where he took great pride in that position.  He loved the church and boldly shared the love of Jesus Christ with as many people as he could.  Michael enjoyed studying his bible and singing for the Lord. 

Those left to honor the legacy of Michael includes his cherished wife, Jacqueline Casey of Phelps, Kentucky; his loving daughters, Valerie (Derrick) Stump, of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, and Jessica (Matt) Stump of Georgetown, Kentucky; two sisters, Georgia Ann Stevenson, and Wanda Casey, both of Phelps, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Paul Michael (Nora) Brizendine; and sister-in-law, Donna Smith.

Michael’s love for his grandchildren was boundless.  He was the proud grandfather to Christian Hurley, Addison Senters, and Joseph Stump and an uncle to Pamela Stevenson (Bobby Burge), Marcus (Conzetta) Stevenson, Alan Stevenson, Chris (Donna) Wiles, Amy (Jared) Hunt, David (April) Smith, Kelli (Benji) Kendall, Jamie (Mark) Rayburn, Mikey (Tammy) Brizendine, Brandon (Destiny) Brizendine, Karagan Brizendine, Jerrica Franklin, and Amber Brizendine. 

Michael also leaves behind his church family who he loved dearly and a host of extended family & friends.

Michael enjoyed squirrel hunting & fishing in his younger years.  He was an avid UK Basketball fan and enjoyed a good western on the television.  His memory will be cherished and kept alive through stories he told, lessons shared, and the impact on the many lives that he’s touched.

The family welcomes friends for visitation on Monday, March 17th, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home in Phelps, Kentucky located at 37035 State Highway 194 East.  Special services will be held at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 Noon in the chapel on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 with Pastors Ronnie & Irvine Hurley, and Willie Coleman officiating.

Interment will conclude at the Smith Cemetery on Smith Fork at Phelps, KY.
