Paul Gene Hurley

Paul Gene Hurley of Stopover, KY passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, KY. He was born January 16, 1947 in Pikeville, KY, the son of the late Fairbanks Hurley and Geneva “Blankenship” Hurley.  He was 73 years old.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Joe Ray.

Paul was a retired coal miner who was always smiling, and never met a stranger.  He was one of the best Papaws you could ever meet.  He enjoyed sitting in his rocking chair on the porch on nice days. Paul was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors remaining to honor his memory include his wife: Christine “Blankenship” Hurley, two sons: Brian Edward (Loretta Duty) Hurley of Stopover, KY and Gary Hurley of Stopover, KY, one daughter: Joanna (Donnie) Blankenship of Phelps, KY, grandchildren: Heather (Kevin) Sellards of Majestic, KY, Paula Duty (Justin Spakes) of Bedford, VA, Ryan Hurley (Ruth Justice) of McCarr, KY, Brittany (Jimmy) Adkins, of Phelps, KY, Richard Lee Ratliff of Phelps, KY, and Kimberly (Jerome) Adkins of Phelps, KY,  great grandchildren: Jace, Kianna, Gunner, Bryson,  Aubree, Paisleigh, Braydyn, Brooklyn, Kyler, Kolton, MaKenzie, and soon to arrive Baby Hurley.

Due to a recent mandate handed down by Governor Andy Beshear concerning the Covid-19 pandemic, all funeral services and visitations are required to be private with a maximum limit of 25 individuals’ total. 

Private funeral services will be conducted at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverends Benny Freeman, Harold Layne, and Odis Blankenship officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hurley Cemetery, Stopover, KY, with family & friends serving as pallbearers.
