Robert Fannin Obituary

Robert “Bob” Fannin, 93 of Freeburn, Kentucky passed into his heavenly reward on August 12, 2025, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He is a veteran of the United States Army and trained troops during the Korean Conflict.

 He played baseball at Phelps High School, Pikeville Junior College and for the US Army, as a member of his Post team.

Bob was a school teacher in Michigan and Kentucky. He was in the coal business with his brothers and together they operated Fannin Coal Company.

He was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ, in Pikeville.

He was the son of John and Emma Fannin of Majestic Kentucky. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruby (Clyde) Charles, Ruth(Mack) Bedsaul, Thelma Fannin, Ernestine (Claude Jr) Sanders and three brothers, Ralph (Julia) Fannin, Jack (Evelyn) Fannin and Clyde Fannin.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruby (Hamilton) Fannin, a Brother In-Law, Claude Sanders Junior of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and a Sister In-Law, Evelyn Fannin of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; Four Children, Kimberly Jo (Thaniel) Thacker, Gregory Kent (Robin) Fannin, Robert Kerry (Susie) Fannin and Kelli Ann (Larry) Thompson; seven grandchildren, Erika (Ryan) Dotson, Jodi (Ronald) Patrick, Jarrod (Jordan) Thacker, Corey (Brianna) Fannin, Chelsea (Nate) Coleman, Taryn (Stephen) Guerra, Robert “Bobby” Fannin and 11 great grandchildren, with another one on the way and a host of loving nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Visitation will begin Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Main Street Church of Christ, in Pikeville, at 5 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Main Street Church of Christ, at 12 PM, with Minister, Josh Allen officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mountain View Memory Gardens, at Huddy, Kentucky. His grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Kendall Cecil, Dr. Frankie Justice, Joe Dado and Johnny Stiltner.
