Roy Thomas Hurley

Roy Thomas Hurley , age 73, a prominent member of Stopover, Ky. departed this life on July 30, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones and his beloved pets.

Born January 23,1951 in Pike County, Ky., a son of the late Samuel Hurley and Grace New Hurley. He is also preceded by an infant son, Scotty Hurley, and a  brother Jimmy Hurley and his little dog Angel.

Roy is survived by his wife Sadie Hurley of Stopover, KY. Daughters, Melissa (Bennett) Adkins, Elizabeth Juanita Hurley, Tammy (Ronnie) Rayburn, and Misty (Todd) Lester all of Stopover, Ky. He also leaves brothers Junior Hurley of Stopover, KY. and Billy Joe Hurley of North Carolina. He leaves four sisters, Rosalee Maynard of Stopover, KY.,  Betty Lee of Freeburn, KY., Amy Maynard of Edgarton, W.V. and Darlene Hurley. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Rodney, Ellen, Jerome, J.C., Peyton, and Emily.  His grandchildren Jimmy, Brittany, Tommy, Zach, Roy, Jessicia, and Johnny loved him like a father. Roy is also survived by his best friend Tom Tom.

Roy was a retired Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He loved to fish in his spare time and enjoyed the outdoors. He was of the Pentecostal Church of God faith. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. The legacy he leaves his family is invaluable, he was known within his family and community as an honest and just man.

The family will be receiving friends at the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel on Friday August 2, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. with services Friday and Saturday night beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Sunday August 4, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Frank Robinette Cemetery in Stopover, KY. Larry Rife and Benny Freeman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Funeral Home.
