Steve Dotson

Steve Dotson, 74, of Hurley, VA, passed away on Saturday, April 4th, 2026, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, VA.  He was born at Paw Paw, KY on July 15th, 1951, the beloved son of the late Earney & Vina (Hurley) Dotson.

In addition to Steve’s parents, he was also preceded by his first wife of 42 years, Jerri Cantrell Dotson.

Steve spent years working as an Electrician for KenKar Kentucky Carbon, a career that reflected his steady work ethic.  He was a member of the UMWA.  Steve recently gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in December, and he enjoyed attending the New Beginnings Church.

Steve loved humor and enjoyed sitting around with his siblings talking, or “blowing” as he called it.  Among the things he loved most were gardening, hunting and fishing, and four wheeling in the mountains.  Steve was a kind and loving man whose heart was especially full when it came to his children and grandchildren.  He cherished them deeply and took great joy in being part of their lives.  His love for his family was evident in the way he treated others, with patience, warmth and genuine care.  He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. 

Those surviving Steve include his loving wife, Melissa Dotson of Hurley, VA; two sons, Zachary Dotson and Chad Dotson; two daughters, Alexis Dotson and Ashley May; brothers, Richard Dotson and his wife Terri, Wilburn Dotson and his wife Rita, Jeff Dotson and his wife Joey; sisters, Sandra Kay Scarberry and her husband Roy, Beverly Spencer and her husband Chuck, Sherry Colley, and Mert Scarberry; granddaughter, Maliya May.

Steve is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.

The family welcomes friends to gather at the Church of the New Beginnings in Jesus Name on Hurley Road, Hurley, VA at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 8th with services at 7:00 P.M.

The memorial service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the church with Wilburn Dotson officiating.
