Thurman Coleman Obituary

Thurman Coleman, age 72, of Stopover, Kentucky, passed away on March 20th, 2025, at his home. Thurman was born to his parents, Ernest & Gladys “Dotson” Coleman on June 10th, 1952.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his mother-in-law, Vernice Hurley, brothers, Herman, Glen, and Doug Coleman, and one sister, Darlene Coleman.

Thurman retired from the coal mines where he worked hard for many years providing for his family. He found a love for race car driving and took pride in his mustang Kick Booty. Thurman was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed cutting weeds and fishing. He had a big personality and was very comical. He liked to make people laugh and he never met a stranger.

Thurman is survived by his wife, Tina Coleman of Stopover, KY; father-in-law, Samuel Hurley; sons, Matthew (Tabby) Coleman of TN, Brett (Amber) Coleman of TN, Travis (Kayla) Hurley of Roanoke, VA, and T.J. Coleman, Gabriel Wesley Coleman; daughters, Patricia (Daniel) Wolford of Pooler, GA, Jasmine Nicole Coleman of TN, Teara Starr Coleman, and Brittany (Justin) Thomas of Hardy, KY; brothers, Carl Coleman of FL, and Kenny Coleman of Springfield IL; sisters, Phyllis Mueller Coleman of Chicago, IL, Sue Coleman of GA, Deborah Kay Coleman of Springfield, IL, and Christine Coleman of TN; special nieces & nephews, Tiffany Hurley, Damien Hurley, Andrew Hurley, Dakota Hurley, Zayden Hurley, Jennifer Coleman Santiago and Skylar Santiago. He loved his fur babies, Gizmo, Duces, and Blackey.

Thurman enjoyed the company of his special friends, Teresa Prater and Arnold & Kathy Carte.

He treasured the love of his grandchildren, Eliana Renee Coleman, Lilah Grace Coleman, Jamarion Antwan Coleman, Kyeshia Diamond Coleman, Keyona Nicole Coleman, Tayquan Malik Coleman, Luke Joseph Coleman, Hazel Faith Coleman, Trinity Skye Coleman, Waylin Kyle Coleman, Trenton Thomas, Clayton Thomas and baby Coleman on the way; great-grandchild, Atlas Rivers Coleman.

Thurman’s legacy of dedication, friendship, and kindness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held Sunday & Monday March 23rd, & March 24th, 2025, from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home located at 37035 State Highway 194 East with special services Monday night beginning at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 25th, 2025, in the chapel with Pastors Odis Blankenship and Larry Rife officiating.

Interment will follow at the Barker Cemetery in Phelps, Kentucky with friends and family serving as Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Thurman's memory can be made to the funeral home to offset funeral expenses.
