Vina Jean (Hurley) Dotson

Vina Jean Dotson, 91, of Hurley, Virginia, formerly of Phelps, Kentucky, was called to her heavenly home on August 23, 2025.

Born in 1934 in Paw Paw, Kentucky, to the late Josie Pruitt Fain, Vina lived a life of unwavering faith, having dedicated herself to Christ at the age of 17. Her steadfast devotion to her Christian beliefs guided her through a life filled with love, resilience, and service to her family and community. Vina was a devoted member of The Church of New Beginnings in Jesus Name in Hurley, Virginia, where she found strength and fellowship in her faith.

Vina was preceded in death by her mother, Josie Pruitt Fain, her first husband, Earney Dotson; her second husband, Bruce Dotson; her stepson, Jerry Dotson; her stepdaughter, Lucille Charles; her grandsons Chris Dotson and Justin Dotson, her granddaughter, Beth Spencer; her great-grandson, Damon Blankenship; her great-great-grandson, Steven Jett Hagy; her sons-in-law, Jerry (pay pay) Colley and Troy Scarberry; her daughters-in-law, Jerri Cantrell Dotson and Bette Little Dotson; her sister, Phyllis Quillen; and her brother, Drewey Mounts.

She is survived by one sister Meg Blankenship, her loving sons, Steve (Melissa) Dotson, Richard (Terri) Dotson, Wilburn (Rita) Dotson, and Jeff (Joey) Dotson; her cherished daughters, Sandra Kay (Roy) Scarberry, Beverly (Chuck) Spencer, Sherry Colley, and Mert Scarberry; and her stepdaughter, Shirley Miller.

She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter on the way and many friends.

Vina’s legacy endures through her family, whose lives were enriched by her boundless love and wisdom.  A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Vina’s life was a testament to her commitment to God and her family. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

Visitation service will be conducted at the church of the New Beginning in Jesus Name at Hurley Road, Hurley, VA. with Dale Dotson officiating on August 25th, 2025 at 7:00 P.M.  The church will open at 6:00 P.M. to the public.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 26th, 2025 at the church with Pastor Wilburn Dotson officiating. 

Pallbearers will be family and friends; and interment will conclude at Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.
