The Hurley family would like to announce the passing of our “one-of-a-kind”, Sister Wilma! Wilma Kay Hurley, age 67, of Stopover, KY, passed peacefully, March 29, 2025, while in the care of Pikeville Medical Center.
Wilma was born July 6, 1957, in Grundy, VA, and a daughter of the late Boyd and Pinkie Hurley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Velva (Allen) Bentley, Kenny (Doris) Hurley, Paul Patrick Hurley.
“Big Wil”, as her dad had nicknamed her, Wilma worked in the family business, Hurley’s Market in the meat department as a young woman. She was also a caregiver at Good Shepherd Nursing Home at Phelps, where she became friends with many of the residents. In the early 90’s, Wilma found her niche and opened her own flower shop, Wilma’s Floral. She was a very talented florist in the town of Phelps for many years. Wilma was a “Hoot”! To know her was to love her. She always had a smile & loved to laugh. She was a very compassionate person, always willing to lend a helping hand. She will be greatly missed!
Wilma is survived by her life partner & caregiver of 31 years, Eddie Dean Hurley of Stopover, KY; her siblings, Benny (Kaye) Hurley of Freeburn, KY, Eddie (Barbara) Hurley of Phelps, KY, Vanessa (Ancie) Casey of Kimper, KY, Margaret (Tom) Davis of Kimper, KY, Greg Hurley of Freeburn, KY, as well as a host of nieces & nephews she loved like her own. Too many special friends to name them all!
In honoring Wilma’s wishes, there will be no services.
