Carol Jean Brown

Carol Jean (Barker) Hurley Brown, 68, of Grundy, VA, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY.

Carol was born February 8, 1948 in Pike County, KY, a daughter of the late Raymond and Verna Dotson Barker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Jerry Lee Barker.

Carol was a member of the Sheppard Memorial Presbyterian Church at Stopover, KY.  She was a good seamstress & loved sewing and quilting.  She enjoyed taking cruise vacations and loved the Caribbean Island life.  Carol enjoyed raising her children and loved them all very much.

 
Survivors include her husband: Gary Ivan Brown of Grundy, VA;  children: Gary Allen Brown and Loren William Brown of Grundy, VA, Dana (Harold) Bevins of Elk Creek, VA, Sealena (Scott) Young of North Carolina, Bryan (Beth) Hurley of Abington, VA;  siblings: Ann (Dr. YeeSe) Ong of Muskogee, OK, Raymond “Pete” (Alesha) Barker of Lexington, KY, Thurman “Woody” Barker of Pikeville, KY;  grandchildren: Cody Bevins, Ethan & Dylan Young, Emma Hurley;  great-grandchildren: Cloey, Paisley & Brooklyn Bevins; caretaker: Tina Adkins of Paw Paw, VA, as well as a host of friends and family to mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverend Kelley Baldridge officiating.

Burial will follow at the Dotson Family Cemetery, Phelps, KY.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
