Everett Irick, 78, of Phelps, KY, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Pikeville Medical Center.  Born May 10, 1938 at Biggs, KY, he was a son of the late Carl & Lura Griffith Irick.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: William Irick; and a special friend: Lloyd Fields.

Everett retired from the mining industry, having spent seven years as a coal miner and thirty years operating heavy equipment.  He was a member of Biggs Church of God, Biggs, KY; and was a member of the Department of Forestry for several years.

He was the loving husband of Birdie Stevens Irick who survives him and leaves us these words: “Everett taught me the true meaning of love, a special bond we shared that was the foundation of 37 years of marriage."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Mike (Michelle) Irick of Lick Creek, KY, Jamie (Traci) Irick of Powell, TN, Sammy (Glenda) Stevens of Phelps, KY; two daughters: Venita (Terry) Dotson of Cynthiana, KY, Kym King of Paducah, KY; three brothers: Bruce (Janet) Irick of Feds Creek, KY, Ervin Irick of Phelps, Billy (Doris) Irick of Phelps, Charles (Tressie) Fife of Greenville, IN; five sisters: Nola (Freddie) Fields of Feds Creek, Peggy (Roy) Robinett of Kimper, KY, Hazel Ramsey of Cynthiana, KY, Gaye (Rob) Stump of Phelps, Ann (Frank) Layne of Versailles, KY; nine grandchildren: Matt, Jarrod, Teresa, Mika, Cyeria, Haylee, Kara, Alesha, & Ashley; two great grandchildren: Shyanne & Trip; a special brother-in-law, friend, & helper: Kenneth Stevens; and a host of extended family & friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Jones & West Funeral Home, Phelps, KY with Reverends: Frank Layne, Freddie Coleman, and Daryl Wolford officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Sanders Cemetery, Phelps, KY with Kelly Justice, David Griffith, Ersel Wolford, Buddy Gannon, Randal Hurley, & Bruce Dotson serving as pallbearers. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Everett’s friends who generously donated their time & materials to build the ramp at his home & include: Pastor Freddie Coleman of Phelps Freewill Baptist Church, Kenneth Stevens, Randal Hurley, Daryl Wolford, Ersel Wolford & Teddy Coleman.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 10:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with special services 7:00 P.M.
