John Koboski

July 25, 1935 ~ July 13, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

John Charles Koboski, 81, of Stopover, KY, passed away at 8:15 P.M. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born July 25, 1935 in Bartley, WV, a son of the late Charles and Katherine Toler Koboski. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: John Mark & Jonathan Charles Koboski; two brothers: Brooks Koboski & Charles Koboski Jr.; four sisters: Retha Koboski, Mary Heslop, Margaret Waldron, and Laura June Bobbitt.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years: Janice Blankenship Koboski of Stopover KY; a special niece: Deborah Asbury Ray of Tennessee; and one sister: Beneva Mullins of Bartley, WV.

John was a devout man dedicated to God & His service, a man with a mission. He was a member of the Stopover Church of God. His hobbies included daily devotion, Bible study & daily prayer. He was an excellent father & husband. John was a coal miner by trade and a member of United Mine Workers of America. John was also an avid gardener.

Funeral services honoring John will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Stopover Church of God with Reverend Harold Layne officiating.

Burial will follow in the Woodrow Blankenship Cemetery, Stopover, KY, with Don Casey, Curtis Hamilton, Sonny Downey, Jamie, Tim, & Chris Biliter serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Combs, Neil Lambert, L.C. Hunt, Willie Blankenship, Bill Blankenship, & Marvin Bentley.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the church with special services at 7:30 P.M.

The family extends a special thanks to the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center of Phelps where John made his home for the last year. A staff that was like no other. They were not just the caregiver, they met his medical needs and loved him as much as he loved them. He called this place of care home and the people who also lived there is now family. His desire to come home, he would say “I would be so happy when I get back home!”

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps, KY. The guestbook may be signed at www.joneswestfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Stopover Church of God building fund to build a new kitchen.
