Lizzie "Maw" (Hurley) Fields

Lizzie "Maw" Fields, 80, of Phelps, KY, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Pikeville Medical Center.  Born May 24, 1936 in Nigh, KY, she was a daughter of the late Everette & Nola Marie “Anderson” Hurley.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Vercel Fields; one daughter: Hilda Marie Fields, who died at birth; one brother: Darrell Hurley; and two sisters: Bonnie Hurley & Mavis Fields.

Maw was a homemaker and a member of the Jamboree Church of God.  She enjoyed UK games, collecting ducks, and watching her game shows.  Maw dedicated her life to her family.  She lived for the family reunions that always made the month of June her highlight of each year.  She was the family peacekeeper and anytime one of them were leaving her home after a visit, she would walk over to the door & wave at them as they left.  These and many more precious memories Maw leaves behind to be cherished by her family & friends.

Survivors include two daughters: Norma (Joe) Hurley of Jamboree, KY, Dottie Fields of Phelps, KY; two brothers: Everette (Kathy) Hurley of Feds Creek, KY, Roland (Angel) Hurley of Wytheville, VA; two sisters: Dixie Hurley of Columbus, OH, Flarey Skeens of Mouthcard, KY; four granddaughters: Heather & Regina “Jeanie” Fields, Amanda (Gary) Hall, Vergena Fields, all of Jamboree, KY; one great-grandson: Trevor Wolford of Jamboree; her dog she loved dearly: Mila Jane; and a host of family and friends.        

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverends Hubert Sanderson & Willie Gordon officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery Mausoleum, Shelbiana, KY with Trevor Wolford, Gary Hall, Kenny Wolford, Tyler Wolford, Franklin “Bug” Wolford, and Mike Hurley serving as pallbearers. 

Honorary pallbearers will be: Joe Hurley, Joe Duty, Timothy Randall Lucas II, and the remaining honorary pallbearers include staff members of the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, and are recognized for the phenomenal care they provided for Maw: Ashley Blankenship, Amanda Blankenship, Vanessa Gentry, KK Hurley, Keisha Justice, Hannah Hurley, Debbie Duty, Alesha Dotson, Edna Hurley, Chris Hurley, Jimmy Bentley & Bobby Layne.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home chapel with services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
