Shirley Marie (Wolford) Coleman

Shirley Marie “Wolford” Coleman, 68, of Phelps, KY, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at her residence.

She was born November 23, 1948 in Williamson, WV, a daughter of the late Earl Theodore Wolford and Katherine Daughtery Blankenship.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Randy Joe Coleman; four brothers: Billy Eugene Wolford, Ernest Lee Wolford, Raymond Wolford, Harold Lloyd Scott; and two step-sisters: Marie Anders and Dorothy Bentley.

Shirley was a member of the Kimper Church of God where she loved playing the piano and singing.  In her leisure time, she loved to go fishing and liked to sew.  She loved spending time with her family and doing things with them.  She truly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Even when her health was failing, she was ready to gather around the table with the family for a game of Rook.  She also loved cooking & cleaning, and just this past Thanksgiving, Shirley managed to help prepare dinner and they all had a wonderful time together.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of nearly 53 years: Joe P. Coleman of Phelps, KY.  They were wed Dec. 23, 1963.  She was a wonderful mother to four children, three survive: Robert T. Coleman (Nanetta) of Phelps, KY, York D. Coleman (Tina) of New Tazewell, TN, Lillie M. Dotson (Eddie) of Phelps, KY.  She is also survived by six brothers: Edmond Wolford (Jenny) of Phelps, KY, Dennis Wolford (Anna) of New Tazewell, TN, Earl Jr. Wolford, of Kenosha WI, David Wolford of Kenosha WI, Truson Blankenship of Phelps, KY, Lowell Blankenship of Roanoke, VA; three step-brothers: Elliot Gauze (Danford) of IL, Charlie Gauze (Joyce) of NC, Gene Gauze (Wendy) of Fancy Gap, VA; step-sister: Mary Cole (Bill) of Texas; Thirteen grandchildren: John Robert Coleman (Kennedy), of Johns Creek, KY, Johanna Case (Brennan) of Banner, KY, Tresa Kulik (Chaz) of Hatfield, KY, Whitney R. Coleman of Johnson City, TN, Corey J. McIntosh of New Tazewell, TN, Shawna McIntosh of New Tazewell, TN, William R. Coleman of Sidney, KY, Joseph B. Coleman of New Tazwell, TN, Katie Moyers (Tyler) Sharps Chapel, TN, Krystal Smith (Glen) of Majestic, KY, Keisha Stump (Jeremy) of Phelps, KY, Jaylin Francis of Phelps, KY, and Addison Daniels of Phelps, KY; five great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Kulik, Jacob Kulik, Brynlee Case, Mallory Stump, and Brody Smith.  Shirley will also be missed by a host of friends and her little dog: Jumper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday, December 18, 2016 in the chapel of Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverend Harold Layne officiating.

Burial will follow in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Calloway, Phelps, KY.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7:00 P.M. officiated by Reverends Greg Sharp & Odis Blankenship.
