John Henry Coleman

John Henry Coleman, age 74, of Galveston KY, formerly of Phelps, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in Floyd County, KY as the result of an automobile accident. 

He was born December 28, 1942 in Matewan, WV, a son of the late James Earnest & Roxie Fuller Coleman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: George Washington Coleman, James Elmer Coleman; and two sisters: Corina Coleman & Phyllis Daugherty.

John was a veteran of the United States Army and of the Christian faith.  He was a kind & gentle soul who would give the shirt off his back to anyone.  He passed away while helping someone in need.  John lived for playing scratch-off lottery tickets and was never seen without one.  He was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for his family, and he loved helping raise his grandchildren.  He will be missed by those whose lives he touched.

Survivors include one son: John Shannon Coleman of Galveston, KY; one daughter: Deanna Lynn (Bobby) Locke; of Lebanon TN; five grandchildren: Derreck Lee Daniels; Emily (Darian) Payne; Brooke Coleman; Samantha Desiree Locke; & Kailey Coleman; one great-grandchild Ravinn Jesse Payne; and a host of family & friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Rev. Richard McKinney officiating.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home chapel.
